The Two Trees

Project Background:This is a larger Conté on Paper piece that was inspired by Loreena McKennitt's beautiful setting of the W.B. Yeats poem "The Two Trees". As with the Girl in the Distance piece in my traditional artwork gallery, some of the smaller details of the woman in the illustration were difficult to render in Conté, but I think the overall piece is fairly close to what I envisioned. I especially like the way the color blending on the trees turned out.
The woman is holding a pomegranate that has stained her mouth red with its juice. This was a misinterpretation by me of a line in the poem which reads "And made my lips and music WED". I thought it was RED. Interesting what comes from mistakes...
